Helsinki Sail Racing Management

For more than 50 years, the sailing clubs of Helsinki have cooperated to organize major regattas. The yearly Helsinki regatta event, usually taking place at the end of June and including 10 – 15 classes on five course areas is the most visible result of that cooperation. To improve their capability of managing major events, seven Helsinki-based clubs in 2008 formed a joint organisation, Helsinki Sail Racing Management (HSRM). HSRM with the strong support of the City of Helsinki applied for the ISAF World Championships in 2011, this time however, another continent was selected. In 2009, HSRM organized the Finnish Youth Championships for several classes and in 2010 Helsinki and HSRM will host the Nordic Youth Championships. In 2011, the Olympic classes will come to Helsinki for their Open European Championships.

Open European Championships 2011

During the two first weeks of July 2011, the Olympic classes had their joint Open European Championships in Helsinki.

More than 900 sailors, team managers and coaches from 54 countries participated in the event, hosted by Helsinki Sail Racing Management and its member clubs. Our sponsors and partners and over 400 volunteers made the event possible.

All of you contributed to make this a memorable event for everybody associated with it and for the public.
HSRM wishes to thank you for your contribution to the event. We are keen to see you here again and are happy to announce that the City of Helsinki, a key supporter of the Open Europeans 2011, has expressed its readiness to support future sailing events with the aim of strengthening Helsinki's image as a city focussed on the sea and all activities connected to it.

Nordic Youth Championships 2010 - a summary

Helsinki Sail Racing Management (HSRM) and its member clubs were the hosts for the Nordic Youth Championships in Sailing 2010 which took place 20th – 25th July.

330 sailors from Denmark, Estonia, Norway, Sweden and Finland participated in the races. The Optimist and Zoom 8 classes had the biggest numbers of sailors, other classes represented were Europe, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7
The weather conditions were excellent during the races and all classes were able to sail the full number of races planned.
The participants as well as their coaches and families were very satisfied with the arrangements. Especially the concept of having a common base for all classes received much praise. Also, camping facilities for tents, caravans and caravan cars were available within reasonable distance from the base of the sailing events.
For the organizing clubs, the event was a good rehearsal for the 2011 Europeans event. A careful review of the youth event will now be undertaken with the aim of applying any lessons learned to next year's mega event.

So now HSRM and its member clubs thus focus 100% on the 2011 Europeans!

Open Finnish Youth Championships 2009

The 2009 Open Finnish Youth Championship was the first major event to be organised under the HSRM umbrella. More than 200 sailors took part in this event, using parts of the same base area that will be used for the 2010 and 2011 events.
